Google Prepares Against eBay10/26/05 When you think of successful Internet companies, two names likely come to mind: Google, and eBay. Of all the tech companies out there, these two are by far the most common househould names throughout America.
So what happens when one of those companies goes straight at the other`s primary business? That is exactly what could be brewing over at Google with their new unreleased product -- Google Base.
Some industry insiders have actually seen and recorded screen shots of the Google Base system, and in all aspects it appears to be an eBay rival. In Google's own words, "Google Base is Google's database into which you can add all sort of content. We'll host your content and make it searchable online for free." It even goes on to provide examples, from "listing of your used car for sale" to "database of protein structures."
While the Google Base product is not out there and in front of users yet, screenshots referenced in the news stories from the originating sources show a very similar interface. For more information please see Michael Liedtk`s article or Rob Kof`s article at BusinessWeekOnline.
